The Opportunity: We are seeking a mid to senior level Restructuring & Insolvency Associate (4 to 8 years PQE) to join our client's Commercial Litigation team. The role focuses on contentious work within the restructuring and insolvency practice, though it may also include non-contentious and advisory matters depending on capacity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle a range of contentious, general advisory, and transactional employment work, as well as some industrial relations work.
  • Assist senior lawyers and act as lead lawyer where appropriate, delegating and providing feedback to juniors, and managing billing processes.
  • Develop and strengthen client relationships by anticipating client needs and providing prompt updates.
  • Establish effective relationships within the firm's global network, uphold firm values, contribute to initiatives (e.g., corporate social responsibility, diversity and inclusion), and mentor juniors.
  • Comply with risk requirements, firm policies, and professional responsibilities, and contribute to billing, engagement, and client acceptance processes.

Team Structure: Our client's restructuring and insolvency (R&I) practice is a multi-jurisdictional group of lawyers based in London, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The team advises on corporate distress and insolvency issues, combining technical excellence with commercial acumen. They act for banks, financial institutions, office holders, corporates, pension trustees, and directors across various R&I matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clear, concise preparation and drafting of documentation.
  • Liaison with clients under appropriate supervision of a partner.
  • Managing junior associates, trainees, and paralegals.
  • Developing an internal and external network of contacts and contributing to business development.
  • Building excellent working relationships with clients and peers.
  • Organizing and attending business development and profile-raising events.
  • Conducting legal research using internal and external knowledge management resources.

Candidate Profile:

  • Qualified lawyer with relevant insolvency law experience gained in private practice.
  • 4 to 8 years PQE, though candidates with more or less experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrates deep understanding and expertise in restructuring and insolvency law.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and project management skills.
  • Strong client management, people management, and business development skills.
  • Organized, resilient, and able to work to strict deadlines.
  • Cooperative, collaborative, and able to develop excellent working relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent academic and professional qualifications.
