My client, a top London firm are looking for a furniture porter to join their growing team.

 

Purpose of the role

The Porter is responsible for supporting the setup, maintenance, and smooth operation of conference and banqueting, ensuring all areas are arranged to agreed standards and operational needs are met.

Key duties include assisting with deliveries, furniture and equipment transport, supporting Audio Visual and Facilities teams, and maintaining adherence to health and safety standards. The role also involves deputising for the Senior Porter, identifying maintenance needs, and promoting operational efficiency, sustainability, and high-quality service standards.

 

Main duties and responsibilities– 

  • Set up Conference and Banqueting areas with furniture/equipment in required layouts to agreed standards according to relevant requirements, and complete erection/dismantling of scaffolding where required.
  • Support with both Front of House and Back of House area as and when required.
  • Act as an ambassador in all business relationships, maintaining high-quality guest service standards, identify training needs, and striving to exceed expectations in operations and administrative tasks.
  • Proactively anticipate and understand customer needs and expectations where possible.
  • Assist the Senior Porter in ensuring smooth operation of the building and facilities with minimal downtime for members, guests, and staff.
  • Assist the Audio-Visual Manager and AV Team as required.
  • Support with deliveries and collections.
  • Identify both proactive and reactive cleaning or maintenance needs/works and inform the Senior Porter or Duty Manager.
  • Assist colleagues with moving archive material within the building.
  • Transport furniture and equipment safely without causing damage.
  • Ensure unused equipment is stored safely and securely.
  • Record breakages in the log and notify the Senior Porter of any required replacements.
  • Promote a culture of waste reduction, energy efficiency, and environmental concern.
  • Ensure adherence to and updates of department SOP manuals to improve service.
  • Deputise for the Senior Porter, attending Daily Operations and Weekly Operations Planning Meetings as needed. – Promptly report any issues to the Senior Porter.
  • Ensure personal security and that of staff, guests, contractors, and their belongings.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety and Fire policies in compliance with UK law and act as a Fire Warden when required.
  • Communicate relevant Health and Safety concerns to the Senior Porter or Duty Manager.
  • Review all relevant documentation, including weekly sheets, to prevent operational issues and always ensure effective Porterage cover.
