Role: Employment Lawyer (Employment, Incentives, and Pensions)

The Opportunity: We are seeking an Employment Lawyer to join our client's Employment, Incentives, and Pensions (EPI) team. This role involves a range of contentious, advisory, and transactional employment work, along with some industrial relations work.

Primary Objectives:

  • Deliver excellent client service and manage discrete pieces of legal work.
  • Aim to meet and exceed target hours while building commercial and legal expertise.
  • Strengthen client relationships, often acting as a direct point of contact.
  • Manage and delegate work to junior colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Role-specific: Handle contentious, general advisory, and transactional employment work. Assist senior lawyers and act as lead lawyer where appropriate. Delegate and provide feedback to juniors, consult on complex issues, and manage billing processes.
  • Client Management: Develop and strengthen client relationships, anticipate client needs, and provide prompt updates.
  • Support the Firm: Build effective relationships across the global network, uphold firm values, contribute to initiatives (e.g., CSR, diversity), mentor juniors, and engage in marketing/industry events.
  • Compliance: Adhere to risk requirements, firm policies, professional responsibilities, and contribute to billing, engagement, and client acceptance processes.

Group/Team Description: Our client's EPI group comprises almost 200 lawyers across Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and the US. The London Employment team includes 3 Partners, 15 Associates, 3 trainees, a consultant, and a PSL. Ranked top-tier by Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, this team is recognized globally for its excellence.

Key Clients: Tesco, Post Office, Jefferies, Uber, Syneos Health, TPICAP, Eni, Chevron, and Church Commissioners.

Recent Work Highlights:

  • Defending the Post Office in Employment Tribunal proceedings by 120 sub-postmasters.
  • Advising Tryg A/S on its bid for RSA.
  • Representing JLT in a High Court team move claim.
  • Defending Tesco in equal pay claims.
  • Advising Jefferies on multi-jurisdictional proceedings against Cantor Fitzgerald.

Candidate Profile:

  • Qualified/admitted legal practitioner in a relevant jurisdiction.
  • Ideally at least 4.5 years post-qualification experience (flexible).
  • Practicing Barristers interested in transitioning to a law firm are welcome.
  • Solid knowledge of Employment law and relevant industry sectors.
  • Strong legal skills (drafting, negotiation, project management), foundation-level people management, and business development skills.
  • Good understanding of law firm profitability and financial efficiency.
